Having already received the Golden Puffin – the international FIPRESCI critics, the Church of Iceland Award – at last year’s Reykjavik International Film Festival, it picked up five top prizes at the televised ceremony in Reykjavik’s Gamla Bíó: Best Feature, Director, Original Screenplay (all Rúnarsson) as well as the Best Acting awards (Theodór Júlíusson, Margrét Helga Jóhannsdóttir).
An Icelandic-Danish co-production, by local Zik Zak Filmworks production with Denmark’s Fine & Mellow Productions A/S and support from the New Danish Screen talent pool, Volcano is the story of an elderly man, who has worked all his life as janitor at a public school. Now he is facing retirement, and he doesn’t like what he sees.

This year’s Live Achievement Award went to director-cinematographer Vilhjálmur Knudsen, also of volcano fame – he shot the award-winning Fire on Heimaey, about the 1974 eruption.
